The word Bodhi means to observe and to be aware. My work revolves around this basic idea. I am drawn to matter in its elemental form – as a material and as a reflection of self. From this stand point, my compositions attempts to observe and render the ‘innate qualities’ of natural elements which are instrumental in their ‘physical becoming’. My current inquires largely revolve around earth and water. Ground earth is mixed with water and organic matter to recreate itself on one hand, and on other occasions, the solid density of earth transforms into movement and flow of water, in an attempt to merge and unify voices. Choice of materials and their compounding is imperative to each depiction. Hence a lot of time is spent to understand their personality and behavior to ascertain their right place in the practice. Being an avid traveler, various geographies and lands that I have visited have been instrumental in carving my process and choice of materials. The process here is the message and it carries a dimension of wonder and submission, use of ancient wisdom, creating a continuity of knowledge and pleasure drawn from age-old resources.
