Broken Whole
Broken Whole
Clay
2021

This series comprises of tiles that symbolize broken pieces of pots or clay shards that I noticed in my visits to Indus Valley Civilization excavation sites. This work transfigures the idea of a whole pot, using clay tiles and resembles image of a large undivided landform that is now fragmented in 2 separate countries, that carry common roots. 6 complete tiles of size 16" x 20" are broken and divided into two parts. One part of this tile was shown in Lahore, Pakistan (November 2021) and other part of the tile will be in shown in Delhi ( April 2022). The voids/absent parts in one tile show what the missing pieces might look like.Where does the land end and pot begin? How do creation and destruction depend on each other? These are some of the questions that these compositions pose.
